Hello Gurus,

I have an issue with characteristic value assignment to articles.

A characteristic has two value assignments as defaults. This characteristic is assigned to Merchandise category.

But when creating an article against this Merchandise category, the default values do not get saved automatically.

Any idea what could go wrong?

MM42: Article Category - change

Hi

Is there a way to change the article category. We want to go from 00(Single material) to 12(Display).

I know that a change the other way would not be recommended, meaning going from an article with components to an article without components.

A simple test changing the value MARA-ATTYP the hard way and then add the components in CS01, will give no problems what we have found.

IDOC status = 51, article doc. created, why?

Hi,

User was posting WPUUMS.

The IDOC status was "51". A check with TCODE WPER on the same IDOC no. shows that the following error message.

"Deficit of SL Unrestricted-use 1 PC : 1122233001 1701 0001 (1122233001)"

Normally, when there is deficit stock, there would not have any posting on the article doc.

However, I got feedback and confirm that indeed, there had been an entry in the article document.

I don't think this is normal.

I suspect some setting error in configuration.

Can someone shared with me if you have encountered similiar problem?

Thanks in advance.

Store Currency for store xxxx not filled

Hi Experts,

We are using POS DM.

We are getting an error "Store Currency for store xxxx not filled".

I already checked for the same issue in SCN, I found one of the threads.

In that they have mentioned that the master data need to be maintained and investigated whether data is available or not in the master data table.

I found out that Local Currency for a particular plant has been maintained.

Even though it has been maintained, we are getting the same error.

A little help will do.

Thanx

Showrooming – threat or opportunity?

$

Showrooming has changed the way retail customers shop. Even if you are a skeptic like me, evidence suggests 82% of US and UK shoppers are doing it.  Shoppers visit physical stores to research a product - to experience it first hand. The shopper compares prices online, and purchases from the vendor with the lowest price. If the retailer can’t beat or match the price, how do they get customers to buy from them?

Shop Outside the Box

In China, many retailers are becoming realtors.  Yes, you read that correctly. They are selling space.  But not to their shoppers. They've turned the oldest joke in retailing into a business plan. (Know the three secrets of retailing ? Location, location, and location.) The plan centres on a new store-within-a-store format. They rent space to vendors within their store and in turn, those vendors receive brand exposure – whether a purchase is made in-store or online.

To compete with Amazon, companies like Carrefour are changing how they use space to offer customers ‘instant gratification’ by offering same-day pick up or delivery from their warehouses.   In my mind, Swiss grocery giant COOP has nearly mastered Click & Collect, using a mobile app backed by SAP software. Simply shop online, and drive up to a depot where its waiting for you.

Retail Feng Shui

In addition to the new floor plans in China, retailers doing business in South Korea are re-imagining the shop space too. With 91% of its population connected on 4G networks via smartphones, Tesco took the opportunity to offer Seoul subway commuters a ‘virtual grocery wall.’ Customers can scan-and-buy products on their way to work and find their groceries on the doorstep when they get home. Twitter brought me similar news. The London Underground proudly tweeted about the refrigerated grocery van at the train station - so you can order while at work, and it will be ready for you when you get off the train.

Be different

Customers showroom in competitors’ stores too, so retailers can use price comparison providers to offer special deals. When a product is scanned by a competitor, they can serve up a better price. Retailers are going further by offering unique products like Tesco’s Hudl and Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader. Loyalty programs can also make retailers stand out, and customers will pay a premium for those programs.  In my opinion, success seems imminent for Canadian retailer Loblaw with their new PC Plus program.

The human touch

It is  important to remember why customers visit a store in the first place. The human touch is something that online shopping can’t provide. Shoppers can pick up items, try on a garment and interact with store associates. Many retailers encourage showrooming by offering free Wi-Fi in their stores. Retailers many not always be able to compete on pricing, but they can create a personal experience with immediate customer satisfaction that will build their brand and result in future sales.

Retailers are keenly aware that stores are an essential part of the customer experience, along with e-commerce sites and mobile apps. Merchants are redefining the role stores and the staff play in the context of their overall customer engagement strategy.  The battle for customer loyalty begins with a better understanding of the customer.  Showrooming can be leveraged as another tool in the retailer’s bag to help maximize customer engagement and reinforce their brand.  Is this right for you and your brand?

MM01. MRP Type and target stock

$

Hi, we have SAP Retail and we usually use transactions MM41/MM42 to create and maintain articles. In this transactions we also set data for replenishment in the 'Logistics CD' and 'Logistics Store' specifically in MRP Type (we use RS type), coverage, target stock, and others fields. Every day we run the transaction 'WRP1' for replenishment so SAP calculates our neccesity and generates purchase requisitions that later become purchase orders. This procedure has been working succesfully during 2 years.

Recently our company has open a meat production plant in our main supplying center and because we need to produce material from other materials and take care of the detailed costs we have to use the co-product characteristic. The issue here is that SAP Retail doesn't handle co-product feature and the only way we could accomplish it is using transactions MM01/MM02 to create the materials besides CS01/CS02, C40N and others related to this process.

We have realize that if we create materials with MM01 we cannot modify it with MM42 and viceversa and we've also realized that we can't set the target stock with MM01/MM02 nor the coverage we need to set if we use MRP Type 'RS', or another which requires the same data in order to WRP1 create a replenishment proposal. We know that we could use transactions MD01, MD03 and MDBT to generate replenishment but our work depends entirely from WRP1 and we don't want 2 procedures to execute replenishment. Our goal is to use WRP1 to generate planner order or production orders directly setting the procurement type 'E' or 'X'.

So, the question here is; how do we set target stock and coverage in MM01/MM02 when using 'RS' or any other Retail Replenishment MRP Type? or better yet; how can I handle this situation?

Thanks in advance.

LSMW-Multiple Articles data in Single IDoC

Hi Team,

I have developed LSMW to upload MARC entries using IDoC ARTMAS06. LSMW is working fine for data upload of Article 5k.

I would like to know What changes I need to make into LSMW so that in single IDoC I can pass multiple data.

Currently for each Article data upload system is creating one IDoC, instead I want multiple Articles data in Single IDoC like 5000 Articles data in one IDoC.

Please Suggest is there any way to do so.

Thanks in Advance.

Mobility Benchmark, Surprising Results

$

Do you think mobility is NOT impacting your business?  Mobile devices are everywhere, and they've been turning retail upside down.  From showrooming to employee empowerment, it's a game changer. But where is your mobile strategy, and does it have legs?  I've had the opportunity to both influence and observe what's happening in the retail community, and the professionals at Retail Systems Research have just released their annual benchmark report.

Evolving Mobile Strategy

It's good to know where your company stands versus recognized leaders.  As you know, SAP is leading in the mobile space, and many clients are making leaps forward with mobility. Here's what I see happening:

  • Historically, some retailers had a CEO-banged-on-my-door strategy - mobility is limited to internal use by staff for email and maybe a portal, and it was inspired by the shiny new tablet landing on the big Kahuna's desk, demanding email access for it.
  • Employee empowerment strategy - companies like The Home Depot using handhelds as a customer-service tool are seeing dividends.
  • Mobility as a selling tool - the Tommy Hilfiger Look Book is a beautifully executed example.
  • Mobilizing the web site.  More than just shrinking the screen, companies using hybris are building real mobile commerce.
  • Holistic mobile strategy, if it exists, is often all about the customer, and employees come a close second. Sephora sees both as a priority, and does this brilliantly, in my opinion. They've enabled a fantastic shopping experience. This kind of thinking is a great step forward for the industry, and can be emulated, but make it your own.

Now that the mobility is a way-of-life for some, the rest of the industry has to decide what to do, if anything.  My hope is that you are already on board with the idea, but it might be good to know what the pioneers have learned.

Reality Sets In

From the latest RSR benchmark data, we can see the leaders are again way out in front.  According to the report, over 40% of customers are shopping from home with mobile devices, and 56% of retailers recognize the need to "be there". The report does a nice job drilling into what this means.

The question of how best to "be there" is complex; and a bit surprising.  The part I found fascinating were 41% are now saying cross-channel coordination is a challenge, and there was a pretty big gulf between recognizing these issues are important, versus having implemented a solution to address the issue.

Organizational and Technical inhibitors are being addressed, through wise investment. But there is a huge gulf between the leaders (winning retailers) and the rest of the pack.  In particular, investing to empower staff is seen as important, but if it truly was taken to heart, solutions (like SAP Afaria and Retail Store Operations Associate applications and competitive offerings) would be more widely rolled out.

Mobilize Your Team

There are several more surprises in store with this year's benchmark. There were some shifts from 2012-2013, and I think the industry has come a fair way as shown in the new 2014 report. Clearly, eliminating financial, organizational, and technical barriers is a priority for many organizations. How does your team stack up?

WRP1 and planned orders

$
0

Hi, we have SAP Retail and we have installed a plant which manufacture some products. At this point we have configured all the production process with recipes and all the stuff related however we have experienced some troubles. We have discovered that if we create materials with MM01/MM02 we could not modify them with MM42, we have also discovered that the materials saved with MM01 cannot be replenished using WRP1. Our produced articles are FERT, ROH  and HALB and what we plan to do is to run the MRP with WRP1 and generate planned orders that will be converted in production orders.

We run the WRP1 but SAP is generating us purchase requisitions but we would like this transaction to produce planned orders. Or if its posible, transform this purchase requisition in production order, which as I read it doesn't seem posible. I tried to generate a PO document with this purchase requisition and it generates a Framework purchase order (FO) and I don't know what that is.

The overall strategy is to configure with MM41/MM42 the supply source of the stores as 'Stock transfer' (2)  and set procurement type 'F' so WRP1 generates purchase requisitions that eventually will be transformed as stock transfer orders which the vendor/supplier is going to be our distribution center. The DC is the place we are mounting the in-house production.

Our supplying plant has procurement type 'X' or 'E' but with this one we want WRP1 to generate planned or production orders with the replenishment requirement that includes all the requirements from the stores, so when we have all the production we could supply articles for the stores.

Is this the right approach? What should we do in this situation?

Thanks in advance

PS. We do not plan to use the MD01, MD03 or MDBT for MRP.

Trx. MM41: Creation of new article data

Hi togehter,

I've a special question regarding tax data proposal inthearea of SAPRetaill - Creation of new article data.

We've distribution centers in different countries.

If I create a new article masterdata for a sales organization assigned to Austria and a distribution center

assigned to Italy I get the following tax data proposal (if I enter '1' in field MARA-TAKLV):

IT     Italy     MWST     Output tax               1     Full tax

IT     Italy     LCIT        VAT license Italy      1    Full tax    ->     error: the category LCIT does not define classification 1 (only 0)

I assume that the entry LCIT comes from table TSKM.(material taxes).

Now my question.

We don't need the entry LCIT. It is possible or it is the right way to delete the entry named before?

Or should we create a new entry?

Thanks in advance for your help/info.

Best regards

Frank

Greetings,

I have a question regarding the set up of bonus buy promotion - If I created a prerequisite for some article groupings, but want to exclude certain articles from this bonus buy. Is there any method to address the exclusion?

Example:

Article Grouping Z001:

-Article A

-Article B

-Article C

-Article D

-Article E

Bonus Buy settings:

Prerequisite - Article Grouping Z001

Condition agreed - Article F with condition value of USD10.00

We do not want to enter the articles one by one under prerequisite, in this case, how to exclude Article E from this promotion?

Thanks!

Amazon Files Patent for Speculative Shipping - Probable game changer

$
0
0

"Here is the basic idea: Amazon would forecast demand for a given geographic region, whether that is a state, a metro area - or maybe even an apartment building, on something like a daily basis.

It would then pre-ship items towards that geographic area at the same level of granularity (meaning possibly, for example, based on a 5-digit zip code, maybe a 3-digit code, or maybe a street address with no name/unit), using common carriers. Each package would be uniquely identified.

If an order is received for that item, then the delivery address would be communicated to the carrier, which would somehow update the shipping information for that parcel."

I think Amazon's Speculative Shipping is one step towards winning the battle in 'Last Mile advantage'. Today in the increasing competition in the e-commerce space, delivery has become an essential factor after pricing and assortment. This strategy from Amazon, if succesfully implemented would help in same day delivery with an premium charge. Proper forecasting would actually allow Amazon to distribute the products at relevant geographic regions, reduce the delivery time significatly and increasing the customer satisfaction.

This would require a paradigm shift in thinking about delivery which typically waits for the order to come from customer. Algorithms need to be built to cater this kind of delivery model.

I think new SAP application on HANA can cater to this speculative shipping process. This would require data crunching of all previous orders, category spread, geographical spread and predict the next shipping.

Physical inventory for stores

Hi Experts

I am having some questions regarding store stock physical inventory process with the background that the client is using 3rd party POS system.

1. I am having bit of research regarding standard functionalities to do physical inventory for retail stores and got the normal (i think it is the most normal one) transaction to create physical inventory doc and post difference (MI01, MI04, MI07, MI20, etc); on the other hand, i found there is the transaction WSTI (logistics-->Retailing-->Merchandise Logistics-->Physical Inventory-->Special procedures" with the title "physical inventory during opening time". So I wonder what the differences are between them? And which should be the right approach for physical inventory process?

2. On trying the WSTI transaction, there is one code "WSTI_R_PI_CALC - Calculate Inventory balance", when i enter the store and article and execute, it gives me an error message "Physical inventory switched off for opening time in all sites", so appreciate if any expert can shed some light how I can deal with this situation?

You responses are most appreicated.
